When to send a secure link instead of a fax

Links expire, can be revoked and show you who opened them. Fax cannot.

Send a fax when the recipient only has a fax machine. Send a secure link for everything else — it is better in every respect that matters.

What a secure link gives you that a fax does not

- Expiry. Access ends automatically. A fax sits in an output tray indefinitely. - Revocation. You can withdraw access after sending, per recipient. - An access record. You can see when each recipient opened and downloaded it. A fax confirmation tells you a machine accepted pages, nothing more. - An optional access code, shared separately from the link, so the link alone is not enough.

How it works

Choose documents and recipients. Each recipient gets their own link with its own token, so access is attributable per person and revocable per person. Only the hash of each token is stored — VitalFax cannot reconstruct a link, which also means it cannot resend one.

If the content is sensitive

Your organization's communication policy may require an access code automatically. Content classified RESTRICTED or PHI is never placed in the body of an email or an SMS: VitalFax sends a link and the recipient opens it. That behaviour cannot be switched off.
