About this calculation
Conventional units (mg/dL) and SI units (mmol/L, µmol/L) are both in everyday use, and a result quoted in the other system has to be converted before it can be compared against a familiar reference range. Each conversion shows the factor it applied.
Formula
SI value = conventional value × conversion factor (derived from molar mass)

What this does not account for
- Reference ranges differ between laboratories and analysers. A converted value must still be compared against the reporting laboratory’s own range.
- Urea is reported as urea in some systems and as urea nitrogen (BUN) in others. The two differ by a factor of 2.14 and are routinely confused.
